India’s Power Grid Approves Litmus Industries as Sole Nepali Manufacturer for Cross- Border Power Transmission

Date uploaded Feb 12,2026

Litmus Industries Limited, Nepal’s largest manufacturer of wires, cables, and conductors, has secured a major contract to supply high-voltage transmission lines from the Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL). PGCIL is India’s central transmission utility and operates the country’s interstate and cross-border power network. The approval makes Litmus Industries the only Nepali manufacturer selected for this cross-border transmission project.

Under the contract, Litmus Industries will manufacture and supply 2,799 kilometers of 400 kV ACSR Moose Conductors. The conductors will be used in Nepal’s Diding-Dhalkebar and India’s Bathnaha cross-border transmission line, part of the 900 MW Arun-3 Hydropower Project. This is the first time 400 kV ACSR Moose Conductors are being manufactured in Nepal. The development represents a major technological and industrial milestone for the country.

Before awarding the project, the Power Grid Corporation of India carried out a detailed inspection of Litmus Industries’ manufacturing facility. The evaluation reviewed production processes, manufacturing capacity, quality control and testing systems, and overall factory infrastructure. Following a thorough assessment, Litmus Industries has been approved as the only Nepali manufacturer qualified to supply conductors for the project, a proud milestone for the nation.

The Dhalkebar–Bathnaha transmission line is a key cross-border link associated with the Arun-3 Hydropower Project, one of Nepal’s most important energy developments. The 900 MW project is expected to play a central role in strengthening Nepal’s energy security. It is also expected to support industrial growth and expand electricity trade between Nepal and India.

Litmus Industries brings proven experience to large-scale transmission projects. The company previously supplied 3,600 kilometers of 400 kV ACSR Moose Conductors to the Nepal Electricity Authority for the Hetauda–Dhalkebar–Inaruwa Transmission Line Project. This is one of Nepal’s most critical domestic transmission corridors.

The latest approval positions Litmus Industries as a trusted international supplier. It highlights the expanding role of the Nepali industry. It also underscores Nepal’s growing participation in cross-border energy infrastructure.
